Salmon skin leather – from your plate to some plutocrat’s derrière

Heaven knows how many thousands of pounds I’ve scraped into the kitchen bin in my time.

Or watched my cats eat.

Just when we middle-aged folk have finally resigned ourselves to playing with, breaking and discarding all those toys of forty years ago, when the smart play was to leave them untouched in their original wrapping and consider our pension provision done and dusted, we now learn that salmon skin seating is all the rage among those whose toys include the odd superyacht or two.

“The latest trend in sustainable, environmentally-friendly upholstery for your solar-powered yacht is salmon leather, made from the skins of farmed salmon. Sounds kind of gross, but apparently there’s a growing market for this stuff thanks to multimillionaires who see little irony in the concept of an eco-friendly superyacht designed solely to demonstrate the inutterable wealth of its owner”

While I don’t see it capturing the imagination in the way of certain market competitors, as an incentive not to foul-hook, it’s one of the best…
