What are you trying to say, Query Queen?

“2 free writing contests (one for men, one about fly fishing)”

Not sure what to make of the the insinuation that flyfishing and men are mutually exclusive…

“The winning 2009 Traver Award essay or story must be:

‘A distinguished original essay or work of short fiction that embodies an implicit love of fly-fishing, respect for the sport and the natural world in which it takes place, and high literary values.’

Send in a typed, double-space manuscript of no more than 3,500 words to Fly Rod&Reel, Robert Traver Award, PO Box 370, Camden, ME 04843. The winning story or essay will be published in the October/November 2009 issue of FR&R.

You may submit your manuscript on a CD or DVD along with a hard copy, and please include an oversize self-addressed stamped envelope if you’d like your materials returned. No e-mail submissions will be accepted. Please, no phone calls. Enter only once. The deadline is June 1, 2009. Good luck!”

Honour restored – the flyfishing writers’ competition pays better…

  1. To clarify: My post says “2 free writing contests (one for men, one about fly fishing)” because I listed 2 contests. One is exclusively for men (women can not enter because it’s about “what it’s like to be a man in America”) and the OTHER contest is about fly fishing.

    There were 2 contests listed.

  2. Hmmm, how do you find out if a woman entered the first contest? There might be some explaining to do if she hid it well, won, and showed up at the gala award ceremony.

Yes, although I’m not sure women who know men better than we know ourselves is that rare a phenomenon. I’d give her the prize anyway.

  4. Well ‘tongue-in-cheek’ I love! Good.
    I’m a sarcasm girl myself.
I’ll let you know if I run across other fishing-related contests.
