Nice site, nice book and ‘fish porn’ redefined

Maybe it’s the lingering image of those lovable Ceaucescus and the architecture they brought with them but I’m still not quite at the stage where I expect great things from Romania.

Helping me get there, however, is this engaging site from that country – Fly tying: the ultimate fishing portal. Okay, so it doesn’t live up to its lofty billing and it’s still a bit light on copy but the graphics are good, some of the photography is inspirational and there’s a good collection of links.

bookWith more and more anglers eyeing up New Zealand for their winter fishing, Angler’s Paradise: Favourite Fishing Waters of New Zealand and the Flies to Fish Them With sounds like it could be just the job

“The Tichbornes introduce the world-class trout and salmon fisheries of New Zealand with paintings that evoke the spectacular scenery and illustrate the best local flies to lure the trophy fish. Here is a permanent record of their five-year odyssey in search of the best fishing places, and the fruit of their interviews with local experts on how to fish them

I just hope you can get hold of one. The 18-year-old book appears to be a little thin on the ground.

And finally, some excellent footage from Montana of rising fish. I know the term ‘fish porn’ normally relates to besotted anglers clutching fish of a lifetime but there’s something about the close-but-not-hooking nature of this clip that arouses teases me even more.

Have a great weekend…
